Appearing on Barbara Walters’s Sirius radio program Monday night, View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck revealed that her husband Tim has signed a contract with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals – and so she will begin her maternity leave a few days early to have the baby in Arizona.
“When he got this call, I saw Tim, I saw him on the phone, I saw his adrenaline get going again,” Hasselbeck said on Barbara Live. “This is what he’s meant to do.”
Upon hearing the news, Walters said, “Wonderful!” View executive producer Bill Geddie, also on the air, added, “Fantastic. That is so cool.”
Hasselbeck, 30, had planned to work on The View right up until her due date, signing off on Nov. 8 or 9. But when she confirmed the news on The View Tuesday morning, she said that next Tuesday, Oct. 23, will be her last day on air before her break.
“I have to take early maternity leave so that I can get there and actually introduce the doctor to my parts, before she pulls a child out of me,” she said. “But I’ll be back, after the hiatus.”
After getting good wishes from her co-hosts, Hasselbeck added, “Oh, don’t get excited that the Republican is gone so soon, ladies! I will be back to torture you all.”
Timing Is Everything
Hasselbeck said she’s happy about the timing.
“Now that I’m having this baby when I am, I can actually be with Tim and [2-year-old daughter] Grace. We can be together and expand the family. It’s a good thing.”
Tim Hasselbeck, 29, was cut by the New York Giants on Sept. 1, and had since been working as a broadcaster for FOX. The Arizona Republic reported on Monday that he was “likely” to join the Cardinals as a backup quarterback following injuries to Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner.
On her radio program, Walters pointed out that her co-host has a lot going on during her eighth month of pregnancy.
“That’s how I like it,” Hasselbeck replied. “I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I think when when you love someone and see them doing something they want and love, you just do whatever you need to do.”
