Elian Gonzalez, 6, received a hero’s welcome n his native Cuba, where he and his father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, returned last night, after the boy’s nearly eight-month sojourn in the United States. Some 800 school children and a marching band greeted the Gonzalezes after the U.S. Supreme Court refused earlier in the day to intervene in the international custody case. President Clinton said justice has been done. Cuban President Fidel Castro made good on his promise not to attend Elian’s homecoming.
