Sure, fireworks look amazing as you gaze on them from afar, but this video, which was shot in May but is making the rounds over the Fourth of July weekend, shows how much more awesome they are when you get very, very close.
One intrepid videographer documented a fireworks display with a GoPro camera strapped to a DJI Phantom 2 drone.
The video has been viewed on YouTube almost 2.4 million times. While the cameraman pointed out that the gear wasn’t damaged, it could have been a costly experiment if one of the fireworks had scored a direct hit.
The drone costs about $1,300 and the camera is about $300, but the result is priceless.
