We’ve officially made it to Oct. 21, 2015, and while there aren’t flying cars just yet, the future is definitely here.

In honor of Back to the Future Day – the date that Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled through time to in 1989’s Back to the Future Part II – Christopher Lloyd returned to the DeLorean to deliver a special message for fans.

“Great Scott!” Lloyd says, dressed in full costume as the eccentric Doc, in a new clip. “If my calculations are correct, it is now, precisely, Oct. 21, 2015. The future has finally arrived.”

While the good doctor admits that the flick didn’t get everything right (the Cubs don’t seem likely to win the World Series this year), he still dishes out advice about embracing what’s to come.

“Yes, it is different than we all thought,” he says, “but don’t worry – it just means means your future hasn’t been written yet, no one’s has, your future is whatever you make it – so make it a good one.”

Earlier this year, part of the film’s cast celebrated the 30th anniversary of the trilogy’s first installment at the Hollywood Bowl.

“It’s amazing after 30 years that it thrives the way it does and continues to grow,” Lloyd told PEOPLE of the film series. “Kids who saw it when it first came out are adults with children now, and it’s cycling. It just keeps going on. It’s extraordinary, and the impact it’s had on so many people’s lives. It’s sort of stunning.”
