Diana Ross told police that she was trying to rent a video and got lost when she was stopped and arrested for drunken driving at 12:30 a.m. Monday, according to a newly released police report.
Police in Tucson, Ariz., stopped the former Supremes star, 58, after another driver called to report a swerving vehicle on the road driving south in northbound lanes, Officer Scott Sullivan wrote in his report.
At the time Sullivan confronted Ross, she had parked at the video store in a space for disabled drivers, he wrote. He also said Ross agreed to a sobriety test but fell down and laughed while trying to stand on one leg and count to 10.
She twice denied she had been drinking, wrote Sullivan, and said that she had been lost and was “just trying to get here to rent a video.”
The New York Post reproduced Ross’s police report in its Wednesday editions and showed that the star mangled the alphabet, missing some letters while repeating some others. (She did “C” twice.)
A publicist for Miss Ross refused to comment.
She is due to appear in court Jan. 13 on three misdemeanor charges for “extreme” DUI.
