It seemingly was a picture-perfect vacation.
“Great day with the girls and ended with seeing Mary Poppins!! The girls are loving NY!” Denise Richards Tweeted on Sunday during her trip with daughters Sam, 6, and Lola, 5, that included time with her ex, Charlie Sheen.
But by Tuesday morning, Sheen, 45, was sent to the hospital for treatment for what a police source says was suspected intoxication and Sheen’s rep called an allergic reaction to medication – and Richards faced a grilling by Howard Stern.
“Good morning!! Getting ready,” the actress, 39, Tweeted. “Heading to do Howard Stern this am!! Hmm what could he possibly ask this time?!?!”
During his Sirius satellite radio show, the caustic host did in fact question her on her relationship with the troubled star of Two and a Half Men. Richards first said things were “hunky dory,” then seemed to reference the hotel incident.
“It’s been a very eventful trip,” she said.
It sure didn’t start out that way. On Sunday afternoon, the foursome visited Serafina, an Italian eatery in Manhattan, where they shared a pizza.
“They were super nice… [and] appeared to be a happy family,” a source tells PEOPLE, adding that the couple’s daughters Sam and Lola – who had never been to New York before – were “adorable in pink outfits” while Denise “looked stunning in a black dress and heels.”
