Director. Screenwriter. Producer. Environmentalist. Darren Aronofsky has many titles.
But the 47-year-old Brooklyn, New York, native may have a new title: Jennifer Lawrence‘s new man.
A source tells PEOPLE Aronofsky and the 26-year-old Hunger Games star, who collaborated on a still-untitled project, “[have] been hanging out and are casually dating.”
Aronofsky has picked up a few festival awards along his career, for movies like 2008’s The Wrestler, 2000’s Requiem for a Dream and his debut film, 1998’s Pi. But the industry’s biggest prize escapes him.
He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for his 2010 film Black Swan — an award he lost to The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper.
While the psychological horror film also lost the Best Picture prize to Hooper’s film — as well as Cinematography and Editing categories — its star, Natalie Portman, would win Best Actress for her performance as a tortured ballerina.
The two were such a good team, Aronofsky reunited with Portman this year — as an executive producer on her new Jackie Kennedy biopic, Jackie, which has been steadily generating awards buzz.

3. He helped make the Jared Leto comeback happen
Jared Leto has worked hard to shake the teen-idol stigma he earned with his breakthrough role as Jordan Catalano in ABC’s acclaimed series My So-Called Life. But after roles in Fight Club and American Psycho, the 44-year-old actor was still very much under the radar.
Until Aronofsky’s 2000 film Requiem for a Dream, that is.

In the film, Leto played heroin addict Harry Goldfarb — a role he prepared for by living on the streets of New York City and starving himself to drop a whopping 28 pounds.
The commitment to the role paid off. Leto received widespread critical acclaim for the film, which reinvigorated his career. He’s go on to win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2014 for Dallas Buyers Club.
4. He’s working on a new project with Lawrence
Aronofsky isn’t just romantically tied to Lawrence. The two are actually working together on Aronofsky’s still-untitled next film.
Ed Harris and Javier Bardem are also attached to the project, which filmed over the summer. Currently in post-production, the movie is directed and written by Aronofsky and focuses on a couple whose relationship is disrupted when unwanted guests enter their lives.
Lawrence and Aronofsky also have a friend in common: director David O. Russell. He directed Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and Joy — while Aronofsky executive-produced Russell’s 2010 offering The Fighter.
5. He’s an activist
When he’s not writing, directing, and producing films, Aronofsky spends a large portion of his time fighting for environmental causes.
He’s a board member on the environmental nonprofit The Sierra Club Foundation, as well as the School of Field Studies — the U.S.’ largest environmental study program.
In 2015, he collaborated with friend/artist JR on a public installation in Paris encouraging diplomats to take a stand against climate change. And the year before, he traveled with Leonardo DiCaprio and Keri Russell to Alberta Tar Sandas and Alaska’s Arctic’s National Wildlife Refuge, respectively.
For his activism, he’s been awarded honors from PETA and the Humane Society of the United States.
