There’s a first time for everything – and Danica Patrick is about to take center stage for her awards show-hosting debut.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Patrick, 31, tells PEOPLE of teaming up with veteran host Trace Adkins on Dec. 10 for the American Country Awards. “I’m a little nervous, though. I’m told it’s going to be really easy, with no issues and no problems, but I just keep thinking, ‘That can’t be true.’ But … we’ll be ready!”

The NASCAR star, who gave PEOPLE her exclusive playlist of favorite country songs listed below, says she’s “really gotten into country music in the last year or so,” and calls the first time gig “a great opportunity for me.”

Explains Patrick: “I co-hosted The View a few years ago and then I’ve presented awards at the ESPYs every year. I’ve been asked to present awards at a lot of shows and I’d like to do more, but scheduling is tough because of how much we race. I’m excited though – this is a big next step.”

In between preparing for her co-hosting duties, Patrick has teamed up with GoDaddy and Chevrolet for breast cancer awareness month. She’ll be driving a pink car in her next few races.

“I have a friend from high school who took the breast cancer gene test six or seven years ago and it was positive, so she decided to have a double mastectomy,” Patrick says. “We’ve all be affected by it in some way or through someone we know, so it’s important to raise awareness and that’s why I’m proud to be a part of what GoDaddy and Chevy are doing.” [spotify id="spotify%3Auser%3Apeoplemag%3Aplaylist%3A4EMEw7dikYtWIJwmo0LIzV" /]
