Courtney Love Charged with Felony Assault

Posted on

In her latest legal skirmish, Courtney Love was charged Tuesday with felony assault with a deadly weapon, authorities in Los Angeles tell the Associated Press.

The charge stems from an alleged April 25 incident at the Los Angeles home of Love’s ex-boyfriend and manager, Jim Barber. The former Hole singer, 39, is accused of attacking a female friend of Barber’s with a bottle and metal flashlight.

An arrest warrant is being issued Wednesday, according to district attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

Love was not in custody, and it was unclear whether she has been served with the warrant. She has been charged in three additional cases, including two that occurred hours apart in October.

Her attorney, Michael Rosenstein, could not be reached for comment.

Recently, Love agreed to enter a drug rehab program as part of a plea bargain after cocaine and other opiates were reputedly found in her system at the time she was arrested for allegedly trying to break into Barber’s home last October.

Love also faces felony charges in Beverly Hills Superior Court, where she is accused of illegally possessing prescription painkillers. She has pleaded not guilty in that case and is scheduled to return to court June 17.

In May, Love was arraigned in Manhattan on charges of assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly hitting a fan with a microphone stand during an impromptu March 18 club performance, which followed her wild appearance on Late Show with David Letterman.
