The newlyweds-to-be took their romance to the Snow Patrol rocker’s Ireland hometown to celebrate his birthday last week.
Derry locals spotted the couple, accompanied by Cox’s 10-year-old daughter Coco, shopping and hitting the beach, fueling rumors they may be on the prowl for a wedding venue nearby.
One possibility: Castle Leslie, a 19th century landmark where Paul McCartney married Heather Mills in 2002.
Speculative wedding planning aside, locals were abuzz with their star sightings. “I couldn’t believe it was them,” Erin Kearney, shop assistant at the local D.Cooley Jewellers, tells PEOPLE. “I mean, nobody famous ever comes to Derry.”
After noticing Cox, 50, and McDaid (whose 38th birthday was Thursday) window-shopping arm-in-arm, Kearney invited them into her shop, where the Cougar Town star purchased a pair of gold earrings for her daughter. Kearney then presented the couple with Derry-made rings (you know, to go with this ring).
“I don’t think they will use them as wedding bands, but they seemed to be delighted with them,” she said. “Courteney said she loved Derry and couldn’t wait to return.”
The couple also turned a family’s christening into a starry affair at the Ramada Da Vinci Hotel on Saturday.
“I’m a massive Friends [fan],” attendee Jordan O’Keefe, who invited them in to meet the rest of the family, told a local newspaper. “I kept calling her Monica by mistake.”
Cox and McDaid greeted guests and even met the baby, named Ella. “It’s pretty cool to think that at just one month, Ella has met such a big star,” said the attendee.
Fans also took to Twitter with their sightings.
