Congressional Award to Schulz

Posted on

By unanimous vote, the Senate approved legislation yesterday awarding a Congressional Gold Medal to the late “Peanuts” comic strip creator Charles M. Schulz. The bill was introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who commended the creator of Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang for providing “a unique sense of optimism, purpose and pride.” Schulz died of colon cancer last February at the age of 77. A similar bill had been passed by the House of Representatives earlier this year, and both bills will need to match before they can go to President Clinton for his signature.
