Cindy McCain made an unplanned stop while campaigning in Michigan on Wednesday: She went to the hospital.

McCain, 54, the wife of presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, went to a West Bloomfield, Mich. hospital following a fundraiser after an “enthusiastic supporter” shook her hand a little too hard.

“At some point during the rope line an enthusiastic supporter shook Mrs. McCain s hand and exacerbated an existing carpal tunnel condition for which she has had previous surgeries,” McCain’s spokesperson Melissa Shuffield said. “Out of an abundance of caution, she decided to leave the event and visit the local hospital for X-rays where she was treated for a minor sprain.

“We appreciate everyone’s concern,” Shuffield added.
