Tens of thousands of women — among them, Hillary Clinton, Rosie O’Donnell, Susan Sarandon, Reese Witherspoon, Emmylou Harris and Melissa Etheridge — gathered in the nation’s capitol on Sunday for the Million Mom March to demand gun control in this country. “30,000 people are shot dead every year in this country, over 4,000 of them are children,” O’Donnell told the crowd from the podium. “We have had enough.” Sarandon said that she and her 15-year-old daughter, Eva, were there because she had been meeting with mothers of victims of the Columbine High School tragedy. “It is easier for a 3-year-old to fire a gun than it is to open a bottle of Tylenol,” the actress was quoted as saying. “We need to regulate guns better.” The National Rifle Association staged a counter protest to the mothers’ rally.
