Capone's Hideaway for Sale

Posted on

The 400-acre summer retreat of Prohibition-era gangster Al Capone is on the auction block. The Wall Street Journal reports that the Couderay, Wis., getaway features a main lodge with 18-inch-thick fieldstone walls (that are bulletproof), a garage that can hold eight cars and a guard tower. After the death of Scarface in 1947, the hideaway was largely abandoned until it was purchased by a Chicago restaurateur in 1959, and the compound currently functions as a restaurant and museum. Sealed bids are reportedly due by Nov. 2.
