Cameron Wants to Leave Earth

Posted on

“Titanic” filmmaker James Cameron has plunged to the bottom of the sea, but now he has his sights set elsewhere. The Oscar winner is planning to stay on board the Russian space station Mir beginning next summer, reports the Russian news agency Interfax. Cameron, 46, has reportedly already passed the training tests at Moscow’s Russian Institute for Medical and Biological Problems. “Cameron was okayed by the doctors to undertake a space mission,” according to Interfax. The director’s spokesman, Ray Santini, confirmed to the New York Post that Cameron had undergone space training in Russia and that he would “jump at the chance” to blast off. “He has been interested in space travel since he was a boy.” Cameron’s news comes shortly after CBS’s announcement that it had made a deal with “Survivor” producer Mark Burnett to create a new series in which the winner would fly to Mir.
