LGBT rights trailblazer and world tennis champion, Billie Jean King, continues to push the needle on issues of inclusion and equality.

After coming out in the the ’80’s, King, now 72, lost the majority of her endorsements – A profoundly different reception from current LGBT athletes and public figures like, Caitlyn Jenner and Gus Kenworthy – who have been widely applauded for their bravery and honesty.

Both King and Jenner, who knew each other in their 20 s, attended the Glamour Magazine Awards last month and had a chance to catch up, “I ve known Caitlyn as Bruce, so it was great to reconnect.” King tells PEOPLE at the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative in New York.

“She was so happy.” King says of her Jenner, “We were so happy to see each other.”

In comparing Bruce to Caitlyn, King shares that, “they re both very soft spoken and kind” and that the two are “not that much different.”

“You are who you are.” King says, “I m glad she s comfortable in her own skin. It makes me happy.”
