Dark Knight, indeed.

Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder Tweeted a first glimpse of Ben Affleck as Batman on Tuesday, and his brooding, brawny figure shows the citizens of Gotham clearly have nothing to fear.

“I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom. #Batman #Batmobile #Gotham,” Snyder Tweeted Tuesday, and promptly triggered nearly 20,000 retweets in an hour.

The black-and-white, smoky shot shows Affleck standing next to an impressive-looking Batmobile while dressed in full Batman regalia, complete with mask, cape and bulging muscles.

Affleck, 41, caught considerable flak after being cast in the Man of Steel sequel last August, even prompting a change.org petition urging producers to drop the Oscar winner. Yet he remained in the role opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman, and the production is currently shooting in Detroit.
