Charlie O’Connell found his love match on Monday night’s finale of The Bachelor, picking petite 24-year-old blonde nurse, Sarah Brice.
“Now it can finally be just you and me,” O’Connell said through tears as he gave the final rose to Brice, known as “Sarah B.” during the show. “I love you,” he added.
O’Connell, who was criticized by fans on The Bachelor‘s message boards during the season as being “dumb” and “a creep,” also offered a diamond ring to his sweetheart, though he did not propose. Instead the gem is meant to be a promise ring.
Despite the paltry record of successful relationships to come from the reality dating series – only Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter have tied the knot – Sarah told show host Chris Harrison that she is ready to move from Texas to Los Angeles to be with O’Connell. The 30-year-old actor is the brother of Crossing Jordan star Jerry O’Connell.
Earlier during the live finale, Charlie rejected the other finalist, 25-year-old Krisily Kennedy, telling her he hoped they could be “friends.” Instead of letting Kennedy down in front of the studio audience, which included her family, O’Connell told her the news in her dressing room where he said they could have more privacy. Of course, the ABC camera crew captured the whole event on film.
Though Kennedy said earlier in the show that she was in love with O’Connell, she didn’t cry when she learned he’d chosen Brice. “I can’t be upset that he fell in love with someone else,” Krisily said, though later she admitted: “I’m not going to say it doesn’t hurt.”
