In an interview on Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O, the actress commended the reality star for “promoting body positivity.”
“I think she’s promoting body positivity. You know, young girls being able to express that they don’t have a stick-thin body – they’re curvy,” Winter, 18, said.
The Modern Family star continued, saying Kardashian’s ability to post whatever she wants is a sign that she’s comfortable in her own skin, adding that it allows women of every body size to be celebrated.
Winter added, “Stick-thin bodies are amazing, you know, those girls are amazing too but I think that everybody’s body would be celebrated no matter what it is and I think that it’s great that she’s so comfortable with herself and that she’s able to post out there what she wants to and post and if she wants to post a nude selfie, she can.”
Similar to her response when the Keeping up with the Kardashians star posted her now infamous selfie, Winter compared the mother of two’s photo with nude photos of men, telling the radio hosts that there’s a double standard.
“We’re not able to do the exact same thing and I think it’s really upsetting to be in an industry where that’s happening, so I really decided to stand up for her because I thought it was so ridiculous,” she added. “If somebody doesn’t like the post, they can unfollow them. There’s no reason to go on and publicly bash them and I think, you know, she’s promoting body positivity instead of being a bad role model.”
The young star has been open about body image, even revealing to PEOPLE that when she underwent breast reduction surgery she was hesitant to go too small because she loves her curves.
“I had the option to go even smaller. But I’m a curvy girl, and I didn’t want to change that. I love being a curvy girl,” Winter said in January. “I had the surgery because it bettered my life. It’s important to talk about it because there are young girls suffering like I did – and there shouldn’t be a stigma about it.”
