Jolie Pitt, 40, has strong ties to Cambodia: It’s where son Maddox, 14, was born; and she is currently working on a new film, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, a memoir of life under Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge regime, in the Asian country.
Maddox and Pax will also be involved in the film’s production. Maddox will be helping with research for the project while Pax will be taking still photos on-set.
“I was deeply affected by Loung’s book,” Jolie Pitt said in a statement upon the project’s announcement. “It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland.”
She added that adapting the book is “a dream come true.”
