The family of the late Ross Bagdasarian, who created Alvin and the Chipmunks, filed a $100-million breach-of-contract lawsuit on Monday against Universal Studios, say reports. Bagdasarian Prods. is accusing the entertainment company of failing to live up to a 1996 licensing agreement by which it allegedly promised to create movies or TV shows featuring the characters with the high-pitched voices and to spotlight them at the company’s theme parks. Instead, say papers filed in the suit, Alvin, Simon and Theodore were each treated “like the poor, unwanted stepchild who must be hidden from public view.” Universal had no comment on the case.
