The clip for the melodic ballad, “Superwoman,” from Keys’s album, As I Am, shows images of women from all walks of life – including a single mother trying to go back to school, a businesswoman in the boardroom, and an astronaut shooting up into space in a rocket.
In the video, Keys soulfully sings at a piano: “This is for all the mothers fighting, better days are coming.”
The song and video are already inspiring her fans, it seems. “I love ‘Superwoman,’ it’s such and empowering song!!!!!,” wrote one fan on the singer’s Web site.
Another wrote: “I heard the concept was including real woman’s lifes (sic) and stories so I am sure the video will reach all people. I love the song SUPERWOMAN!!! (Your album) gets my soul going in the morning to make it through the day. It lifts my spirit, even when I am feeling down (or a mess). I think every woman can relate to it. It promotes positive WOMAN POWER!!!”
Keys, who was named Best Female R&B Artist at the BET Awards in June, is on tour in Europe throughout July to promote As I Am.
“I soooo cannot wait,” wrote one fan. “This has been my theme song this year with all of the stuff I have had to deal with. I have played this song from your cd so much that my 20-month-old daughter can sing along as best she can … Go superwoman go!”
