The secret to a celebrity finally being able to go out in public unrecognized? Date someone who is even more A-list than you.

Retired MLB star Alex Rodriguez appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, and got candid about how dating Jennifer Lopez has been “one of the most humbling experiences” of his life.

“When I was with the Yankees, and we won the world championship …  you wear the pinstripes, you think you’re pretty cool,” he told Fallon. “But then you hang out with Jennifer, and they confuse me with the security guard all the time!”

The couple went public with their relationship in March, and have been spotted in public numerous times since.

The duo made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala on May 1, and Rodriguez, 41, told Fallon that it was clear who was the bigger star when paparazzi started screaming at him – and not even in English – to get out of the way so they could take a photo of J.Lo.

Nevertheless, it seems Rodriguez has no problem playing second fiddle to his girlfriend — and that the pair have only gotten closer in recent months as they traveled together to the Bahamas and Paris.

“Our kids get along really well, we’re both from New York, we’re both Latin, we’re both in our forties, we’re really enjoying life, but she really is one of the most impressive and smartest human beings I have ever met,” he told Extra earlier this month.
