Watch Alan Cumming's Entertaining New 'Pro-Abstinence' PSA (VIDEO)

Posted on

The FDA recently changed its rules regarding blood donations from gay and bisexual men. Following a blanket “ban for life” since the ’80s, the agency announced it will begin accepting blood donations from gay and bisexual men, but only if they remain celibate for a year.

Alan Cumming and GLAAD are not happy about this. In their words, “Straight guys can have safe sex with woman after woman and still donate blood. But gay and bi men who have had safe sex for an entire year even with a monogamous partner – would still be banned.”

Which brings us to Cumming’s ad: In it, he portrays a member of the “Department of Abstinence” and suggests a number of ways men can take their minds off sex during the proposed year of abstinence, which the video illustrates in increasingly graphic ways.

After the video’s gag is done, Cumming urges visitors to sign the petition and share the video to get the FDA to change their policy so that “donors are screened based on their exposure to risk and not their sexual orientation so no matter who you are, you can save lives.”
