A 12-year-old Texas boy, who was home alone, displayed amazing courage last week, hiding in his mother’s closet and dialing 911 after intruders broke into his Port Arthur home.

“Someone is trying to break into my house,” Deion Murdock told a 911 dispatcher in a chilling tape acquired by KBMT-TV in Beaumont. “They just broke the window, ma’am I’m going to have to whisper now because I think they’re coming in. It sounds like multiple people.”

In a scene eerily reminiscent of the recent Halle Berry thriller The Call, the 911 dispatcher keeps the boy calm, praising and guiding him, as police raced to the scene.

“You re doing good, doing real good, doing perfect,” she tells Deion. “Your mom s going to be so proud of you.”

“They’re in here,” the boy finally whispers.

Nearly a minute of scary silence follows before police arrive and see two intruders fleeing the house.

“Stay inside the closet,” the dispatcher calmly tells Deion. “They’re trying to find the bad guys.”

Police quickly apprehended and arrested the suspects. Deion was scared but unharmed.

“This is actually the only thing I could think of,” the boy said of calling 911.

“You’re a very, very smart young man,” the dispatcher told him. “You did a good thing.”

The boy’s mother said she had gone to the local housing authority because she wanted to move and thought her son would be safe at home. She also told the TV station that she’s very proud of her son.
