How do you turn your blog into a global lifestyle and media brand with 500 employees and 85 million readers? Just ask Lisa Sugar, the founder and president of POPSUGAR and the author of the new book, Power Your Happy: Work Hard, Play Nice and Build Your Dream Life.
In Power Your Happy, Sugar documents how she built POPSUGAR from the ground up and imparts important real-life career advice for anyone interested in starting their own company or learning on how to master that work-life balance. (Sugar’s advice? Blend the two together – don’t focus on “balancing.”)
And now, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the cover for Sugar’s new book!
“A couple of the questions I am asked most often are ‘how do I get a cool job like yours?’ Or ‘how have you managed a loving family, successful career, and happy life of your own?’ Now I am excited to share what I have learned and hope to guide others on their own journey,” Sugar tells PEOPLE.

And she has a lot of insight to share. After starting POPSUGAR in 2005 in her San Francisco living room as a fun side-project to her already busy life (she had a burgeoning career in advertising and a baby on the way), Sugar decided to turn her blog into a full-fledged company and media brand. After joining forces with her husband, Brian Sugar, POPSUGAR is now the No. 1 lifestyle media brand for women, covering everything from entertainment and fashion to parenting and fitness.
“I went through the same things as the people I’m writing this book for: not knowing what to do with my life, making a career change, and constantly figuring out how to balance it all,” she says.
“POPSUGAR has given me the unique opportunity to meet so many talented people,” she continues. “I manage a company with more than 500 employees, and I’ve interviewed thousands of job candidates. I’ve seen friends and colleagues make huge career changes, start families, and deal with various obstacles. And the fact is, so many of us struggle with the same stuff. This book is my way of acknowledging those challenges … and hopefully helping people solve them.”
Power Your Happy will be released on Sept. 20 through Dutton.
