Former first daughters Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush gave the nation a rare glimpse into their experiences growing up in the public eye with their recent heartfelt open letter to Malia and Sasha Obama. Now they’re taking a big step further, sharing never-before-told anecdotes about their lives, loves and losses in a new joint memoir, Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life

In the upcoming book, the 35-year-old twin daughters of former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush look back on the many moments that have shaped their remarkable lives — from their public debut at the 1989 inauguration of their grandfather, former President George H.W. Bush, to their own father’s swearing-in 12 years later, to their college years spent under the watchful eye of the Secret Service and the paparazzi, and beyond.

“We’ve always felt lucky that we had each other to walk side-by-side as sisters through the extraordinary circumstances of our ordinary lives,” Jenna and Barbara Bush tell PEOPLE exclusively. “We are so excited to share the stories that mean the most to us — from the ones that made us laugh to those that shaped us the most — and we hope to make Sisters First an entertaining read that will also give readers a more nuanced look behind the headlines.”

The book, due out Oct. 24, also features a foreword by their mother, Laura.

This isn’t Jenna’s first outing as an author. She also wrote the New York Times bestseller Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope and co-wrote with her mother two children’s books. Jenna is a correspondent for the Today show, a contributor to NBC Nightly News and an editor-at-large for Southern Living magazine. Barbara is the co-founder and CEO of Global Health Corps, a nonprofit organization promoting global health equity.

Sisters First will be published by Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group.

Ben Sevier, senior vice president and publisher of Grand Central Publishing, said of the book, “Grand Central is proud to publish this touching and funny portrait of two sisters leading singular American lives. The nation has watched Jenna and Barbara grow up — from children in their grandfather’s White House to mischievous young women in their father’s to civic-minded adults making their mark in the fields of journalism and global health.”
