Teyana Taylor says women can have it all.
Fresh off of a show-stopping performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, a runway stint at New York Fashion Week and a new music video, the 25-year-old singer and dancer is gracing the cover of Paper Magazine‘s October issue and talking about about balancing her super-star status with motherhood.
“You can be superwoman. You can have it all, that balance in your relationship, your family and your career,” Taylor said. “It’s the opposite of the cliché that says kids will slow you or your career down.”
Taylor strutted her stuff in Kanye West‘s music video for “Fade,” showing off her fit physique in the Flashdance-esque performance. And the star credited her success at the VMAs with being a mother to 10-month-old Junie and her relationship with NBA star Iman Shumpert.
“It was a do-or-die moment where I was like, ‘ I’m going to dance my f—— heart out,” Taylor said. “I honestly don’t feel like ‘Fade’ would have had the same effect had I just been 21, hot body, single.”
She added that her little family may have inspired West to feature Shumpert and Junie in the video as well.
“He was like, ‘It’s so dope because y’all so young and y’all fresh, but then y’all got the baby and the championship, ‘ ” Taylor said.
And the singer said she and Shumpert have the “perfect balance” with the pair supporting each other mutually during their busiest seasons.
“During winter time, I get to be more on his side, supporting him, and during the summer he supports me,” she said. And as for their little girl: “She’s been our good luck charm.”

“She’s just been everything … From the moment I got pregnant with her to the day she was born, it’s been all positives, all greatness, all iconic.”
Along with enjoying family life, Taylor previously told PEOPLE that it “feels dope” to be everyone’s fitspo.
“I think the part about it that I love the most is that [the video] inspires women to know that you can be superwoman, even with a child,” she said.
