Since initially losing 80 lbs. in 2012 after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, Lisa Lampanelli has lost even more weight – although the funny lady admits to having a few rough moments along the way.
“It’s easy to drop the weight, but keeping it off is such a struggle,” she told PEOPLE at the Voice for the Voiceless: Stars for Foster Kids event benefiting nonprofit You Gotta Believe in New York City on Monday night. “It’s emotional eating, so every time something bad happens, you just have to look yourself in the eyes and ask, ‘Am I physically hungry?’ Because if not, you can’t eat it. And you just have to feel the feeling.”
Although the comedian has managed to lose another 20 lbs. post-surgery, she says sticking to her diet is a constant battle.
“I always cheat with dark chocolate, or I’m a fanatic for popcorn – thank god it never really goes to cake,” the funny lady, 53, admits. “But when I cheat, it’s such a small amount that I can’t beat myself up.”

That’s because she knows she will soon be breaking a sweat. The Queen of Mean says she can hardly believe how dedicated she has gotten to working out in the last three years.
“I have the sweetest personal trainer in the world, but she doesn’t let me get away with anything,” she says. “We do weights at least two to three times a week because strength training is really what I need.”
That said, there is one thing that Lampanelli wishes wasn’t part of her exercise routine: planking!
“I know it was a craze but [my trainer] does the side planks and this plank and that plank and I said, ‘Shut up with this stuff, I’m laying like a table and I don’t need this in my life!’ ” she laughs. “It’s wild what you’ll do to impress somebody else and I want her to not be mad at me, so I just do it.”
