Owen Wilson’s Son Ford, 6, Might ‘Be a Little Stunt Man in Training’: ‘He’s a Big Jackie Chan Fan’

Posted on

Owen Wilson may be the one voicing the velocity-defying legend Lightning McQueen in the Cars franchise, but in real life, his son is giving him a run for his money.

The actor stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday to dish about his work on the upcoming Cars 3, his famous family as well as how his two boys — Finn, 3, and Robert Ford, 6 — are developing, personality wise.

“Ford seems like he might even be a little stunt man in training,” says Wilson, 48, of his “fearless” older child, sharing a video of the little guy doing a belly flop into a pool off of a diving board.

“He’s a big Jackie Chan fan,” adds the father of two.

Wilson explains that parenting techniques nowadays are much different from how his own parents raised him and his brothers in the ’70s, joking about they used to come home sunburned from spending a day at the pool and their parents simply commenting on how nice their color was.

“It was just a different time, with no sunscreens and bike helmets,” he explains, noting one hilarious incident he remembers clearly of when younger brother Luke Wilson was a toddler.

“My parents still have the X-rays of this when he was maybe 2, when he ate some change and on the X-rays you see like, a dime, a nickel and a penny,” Wilson says, laughing.

The Zoolander star’s kids are already close — and like with many younger siblings, Finn wants to be just like his big brother to the point where his nickname is “Me Too,” according to his dad.

“Anything Ford says is just the funniest thing ever,” Wilson explains about his younger son‘s opinion of Ford. “And I can make a joke and it’s, like, crickets. It’s like nothing from those guys.”

“Unless Ford laughs,” Ellen DeGeneres points out, which Wilson agrees with.

“Sometimes it feels like I’m already seeing how they’re gonna be as teenagers,” he admits. “Where they’re gonna be ganging up on me.”

Ford’s confident personality extends to family outings. As Wilson explains, he took his sons to Sequoia National Park recently and Ford was a little skeptical about its standout landmark.

“I’m like, ‘Guys, this is the biggest tree in the world,’ and Ford’s like, ‘I’ve seen bigger,’ ” the Wedding Crashers star recalls. “And I’m like, ‘Well no, Ford, actually, you haven’t seen bigger. This is the General Sherman tree. This is the biggest tree.’ And he’s like, ‘If you say so.’ ”

“And I’m like, ‘No, it’s not if I say so, there’s the plaque right here,’ and he’s like, ‘I can’t read,’ ” Wilson adds. “Fake news for him.”
