The 35-year-old actress, who is already mom to 5-year-old son Aleph, has been showing off her growing baby bump on red carpets recently while promoting her new movie, Jackie. But despite how far along she looks, she said she still has a ways to go before giving birth.
“Everyone thinks I’m about to pop and about to give birth at any minute and I have months to go,” she added.
Portman, who first revealed to Matt Lauer on Tuesday’s Today that she was due in the spring, recounted a story to Fallon about a store clerk with very well intentions who recently congratulated her on impending due date.
“I went to this store the other day to buy water, and the guy at the checkout counter was like ‘Almost, huh?’ ” Portman said. “And I was like ‘No not even close.’ ”
Fallon, meanwhile, was officially the last person on the planet to learn that Portman is pregnant.
He was surprised to see her pregnant belly when she sat down for their interview. “Are you kidding me?” he said while laughing. “You … you’re … you have something to tell me!”

Portman played coy — joking that she was going to take off her baby bump like “a big pillow” before confirming to Fallon that she was pregnant.
“You’re showing and you’re glowing! You look gorgeous, congratulations!” Fallon, 42, said. “I saw you over the summer and you didn’t say a word to me!”
“It was early,” Portman said in defense. “I thought everyone would know because I wasn’t drinking.”
“Yeah, I just thought you were clean living. I thought, ‘Oh that’s Natalie — she rolls like that,’ ” Fallon said.
