It’s a boy for Michael Stagliano!

The former Bachelor Pad star and his wife Emily welcomed son Bowen Michael Stagliano at 6:33 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, the couple confirms to PEOPLE.

Born at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank, California, baby Bowen weighed in at 5 lbs., and measured 18.5 inches long.

“Bowen had some exceptional timing as Emily’s L.A. baby shower ended about 12 hours before his arrival,” the proud new parents tell PEOPLE. “This was definitely unexpected since Emily was only 36 weeks along, but we were ready for him — nursery and all.”

While Bowen’s middle moniker honors both his father and Emily’s father, his first name is one the couple have “always loved.”

“Mom and Dad are proud to say Bowen is eating and sleeping well in his first weeks of life,” they share. “Two of our favorite things are: the little noises he makes and how much he likes to sleep against our skin. Just this morning, he was doing his tummy time, and he flipped over onto his back. He is only 2½ weeks! The USA Olympic Team Committee has been notified of his advance athleticism.”

Stagliano also took to Instagram to announce Bowen’s early arrival.

“Bowen Michael Stagliano came a month early (he really wanted to hang out with us). He was born at 6:33am, and came into the world just as the sun was rising over the mountains through the window outside the delivery room,” Stagliano wrote.

Adds Stagliano, 32, “He and Mom are doing great! Because he got here early he’s spending a few extra days in the NICU … and I can’t … stop … smiling. He’s doing well. We will bring him home on Saturday. Thanks for all the love and support for our little guy.”

Bowen is the first child for the couple, who were married in May 2014.

Since Bowen’s arrival, the proud parents haven’t been shy about sharing photos of him, both alone and with various family members, including cousins Addison Marie, 2½, and Austin Michael, 9 months — the daughter and son of Stagliano’s twin brother Stephen Stagliano and his wife, former Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas Stagliano.

“My crew,” Stagliano captioned a Sunday snap of Emily, DeAnna and the three cousins.

Stagliano, famous for both his runs on Bachelor Pad and The Bachelorette season 5, revealed the couple’s exciting pregnancy news exclusively to PEOPLE in May. And it turns out the pair didn’t wait long after beginning their courtship to talk about their future family.

“We talked about our kids’ names a few months into dating,” said Emily, who was engaged to Stagliano seven months after they started seeing each other.

“Totally healthy to talk about baby names on date number three!” Stagliano added jokingly. “[But] it worked out for us.”

The new mom added in May that Stagliano was great at tending to her pregnancy needs.

“There have been many nights where Michael will voluntarily go out and get ice cream for us,” she said of Stagliano, who now has a career as a TV writer while Emily works in finance. “He’ll say, ‘No no no, you stay here, I’ll go out and get us some ice cream.’ He’s been very sweet.”

Emily also admitted to PEOPLE that her husband was more than ready to be a father.

“I know he will be present and ready to help and making that kid’s day every single day with his smile and his energy,” she said. “I know that our son will be very well loved because Michael’s [his] dad.”
