Baby Burr is on the way!
Leslie Odom Jr., who took home a Tony this year for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, and his wife, actress Nicolette Robinson, announced they are expecting their first child. And on Monday night, the couple shared their thoughts about being first-time parents.
“It’s exciting,” Robinson, 28, told PEOPLE at the 2016 Princess Grace Awards at Cipriani in New York City, where Odom received the annual event’s Statue Award. “It’s a whirlwind. We’re very grateful and we’re learning each step.”
Before taking the first steps in preparation for their son or daughter, The Affair actress says she and Odom jetted off to Spain for a quick vacation. But she adds “the schedules keep rolling” for the busy couple.
As for dad-to-be Odom, 35, he says he’s been getting advice from all over.
“I take advice from everyone,” he says. “I take all the advice … The one that I keep hearing again and again is to clear everything out of the way, that kids really only care about you being there. You really don’t have to think about anything else. They just want you there. So that simplifies it down for me. I appreciate that every time I hear it.”

Odom and Robinson know the sex of their child but, as Robinson teases, “We’re not quite telling yet.”
And will baby Odom be taking the stage like Mom and Dad?
“Oh, I’m sure,” Odom says. “You never know. Sometimes the kids don’t like what you like, but I’d love to give my kids an appreciation of the arts.”
He continues, “And I’ll say this: Even more than what I’m looking forward to handing down and teaching a child, I’m looking forward to what the child teaches me — maybe they’re gonna get me into stuff that I never thought I’d be into. I’m looking forward to that, too.”
Robinson also shares what she is most looking forward to about being a new mom.
“Oh man. He said it earlier: We’re just excited to learn and there’s just so many new things that you get along the way,” she says. “We’re just so excited.”
The couple met in 2008 a Los Angeles production of Once on This Island in 2008, where Odom served as both part of the ensemble cast and assistant director. They were married in 2012 and are set to celebrate their four-year wedding anniversary in December.
