She has 72 LPGA wins, was inducted into the Golf World Hall of Fame in 2003, and is one of the most recognizable names in women’s golf. But Annika Sorenstam will soon have a different title to add to her resumé: Mommy.
“Mike and I are very pleased to announce that we [are] expecting our first child,” the Swedish athlete writes on her blog. “We have had a lot of exciting changes in the past few months, and adding a new addition to our family later this fall will certainly be at the top of that list.”
Sorenstam, 38 – who announced her retirement in May 2008 – and husband Mike McGee got engaged in August 2007. The couple tied the knot in January at the Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in Orlando.
“We are thrilled,” adds Sorenstam, “and look forward to this new chapter of our lives!”
