A country star in the making?

Shortly following the news that Florida Georgia Line star Tyler Hubbard and his wife Hayley are expecting their first child together, the duo stepped out Wednesday night at the CMT Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.

“We’re so excited — it’s not a secret anymore so that feels good,” Tyler told CMT’s Cody Horn of the pregnancy while walking the red carpet at the event, where he is nominated for three awards alongside his bandmate Brian Kelley: duo video of the year, collaborative video of the year and video of the year.

The mom-to-be kept her baby belly under wraps in a white belted Marissa Webb jumpsuit complete with a plunging neckline. Tyler, 30, was all smiles in a Palmiers du Mal zip-up jacket, white tee by Alexander McQueenHickey Freeman dress pants and shoes by Frye.

“This is a big week for us, but you know what? Everything else just kind of goes away when you put it into perspective and something like this is happening for us,” Tyler told Entertainment Tonight. “We’re really excited. We got a lot of support and love around us. It’s a cool time for us, and it’s a new chapter that we can’t wait to open.”

Added Kelley to ET, “It’s super humbling for them, and he’s gonna be a great dad, she’s gonna be a wonderful mom. It’s gonna be the coolest thing to see both of them and a child because both of them are so amazing and when they come together and have this child, it’s gonna be … I’m getting a little emotional talking about it.”

The longtime couple, who married in July 2015, revealed their baby news exclusively to PEOPLE Wednesday, with Tyler calling it “something we’ve looked forward to for a while.”

“There’s a lot that we’re going to get to learn,” the “Cruise” crooner told PEOPLE. “Hayley and I both really love learning and growing as people. For us, it’s the next phase and the next stage of life that God can really teach us a lot and show us patience … and selflessness.”

Chimed in Hayley, 30, “[Tyler] is going to be the best dad. I thought that since day one when I met him. He has the biggest heart in the world. But he’s also so much fun, and I know our kids are just going to have a blast with him.”

The parents-to-be already have a built-in support system in pals Thomas Rhett (who is up for three CMT Awards himself!) and his wife Lauren, who adopted 19-month-old daughter Willa Gray in May and are expecting a baby girl in early August.

“Both of our wives actually took a pregnancy test and I yelled to Lauren that we were pregnant — joking because we weren’t pregnant — and she said, ‘Yes, we are, too!’ ” Hubbard told PEOPLE in February about a trip to Tanzania during which Thomas Rhett and Lauren found out they were expecting.

“We got the time to get to celebrate together, but then having to come back home and not tell anybody was challenging, but kind of fun,” he added. “Definitely a cool moment we’ll never forget.”
