Cheyenne Jackson is nothing short of gleeful about his new life as a dad.
The former Glee star and current cast member of American Horror Story: Roanoke talked to PEOPLE Thursday at amfAR’s Inspiration Gala (sponsored by Cadillac) in Hollywood, California, about life at home with 3-week-old twins Willow and Ethan.
“It’s every cliché in the book,” says Jackson, 41. “There’s nothing more powerful and more palpable than seeing your genes in this little soul. It’s so beautiful.
“And watching him be a dad,” adds the actor of his husband of two years, entrepreneuer Jason Landau.

The couple is like any other new parents in that they aren’t getting much shut-eye. But it’s worth the challenges, of course.
“We’re in a fog — a love fog,” Jackson explains of the feelings he and Landau have experienced in their first three weeks of fatherhood.
“Some days you think, ‘What the F did I do?’ And then some days you think you’re so full of love and emotion and you just cry all day. Today was one of the cry days.”
Landau says his biggest surprise about fatherhood is the number of diapers the couple has had to change.
“They definitely go to the bathroom way more than I thought,” he says.
But they share that diaper duty is “pretty even” … kind of.
“Eh … me,” Jackson clarifies after a little bit of thought about who actually handles most of the diapers.
“Yeah, probably,” Landau agrees.
