The former Gossip Girl actress took to Instagram on Thursday to post a photo of herself holding Tamblyn’s baby bump alongside a photo of Tamblyn as a baby on her mother’s shoulders.
“So proud of my dear friend, and new mama to be, @amberrosetamblyn,” Lively, 29, wrote. “Whatever your beliefs, one thing is certain, the world must be a better, safer place for women and girls.”
Tamblyn revealed she was expecting a baby girl in an essay for Glamour on Wednesday. The actress revealed that she had been sexually assaulted by an ex.
Tamblyn, now married to Arrested Development actor David Cross, wrote about a discussion she had with her mother about the traumatizing experience and how her mother had gone through something similar.
“Motherhood has been heavily on my mind because I am going to be a mother soon,” writes Tamblyn. “I’m pregnant, with a daughter on the way. I think constantly about the world I am bringing her into. Will I get a phone call from my daughter someday, one she never wanted to make? Will I have to share with her my story, and the story of her great-grandmother’s words to her grandmother?”

Tamblyn’s grandmother’s response to her mother’s sexual assault was “Boys will be boys” — a statement passed down for generations that the actress is standing up against today.
The Django Unchained actress wed Cross, 52, in 2012 after a five-year courtship and August 2011 engagement. This is the first marriage, and first child, for both.
Her friendship with Lively dates back to their time on set of the 2005 film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. She regularly reunites with her other costars on the film like America Ferrera and Alexis Bledel.
