Hey, it was meant to look that way!

John Travolta’s now-infamous moment at Sunday’s Oscars when he caressed Idina Menzel’s face was planned ahead of time, his rep says.

The bit was meant to riff on how he bungled the singer’s name at last year’s Academy Awards, but he ended up launching at least one new meme because he got all handsy with her visage.

“It was rehearsed in total,” Travolta’s rep told PEOPLE. “John Travolta loved working with Idina Menzel. John had a great time at the Oscars because his wife, Kelly Preston, and his daughter, Ella, were in attendance with him.”

Just like last year’s name incident, Menzel took the touchy-feely moment in stride. After the show, she Tweeted, “Surprise! That was so much fun. Thank you John Travolta for being a good sport. What an honor to be invited again. #lifeisgood.”

On Jimmy Kimmel’s special post-Oscar show, Travolta explained how he ended up mispronouncing Menzel’s name as “Adele Dazeem.” It was (kinda sorta) Goldie Hawn’s fault, he said, because he was starstruck after running into her backstage.
