The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards isn’t your typical black-tie affair; it’s actually more of a green-all-over event.
And, in keeping with tradition, Saturday’s 17th annual ceremony was nice and messy, Reuters reports. The show, hosted by Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz, drew celebs such as Jim Carrey, Kirsten Dunst, Tobey Maguire, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez and Frankie Muniz, who were all united by one thing: Each one could potentially fall victim to Nickelodeon’s patented green slime.
By the end of Saturday’s show Myers was drenched in the stuff, and a particular high point came halfway through the ceremony when wonder twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were sprayed after they had taken the stage to present an award.
The slime isn’t the only indignity Kids’ Choice honorees face. The awards, which were voted on by 17 million kids both online and over the phone, are handed out in categories that range from favorite movie and favorite movie actor (“Finding Nemo” and Jim Carrey won in those categories) to honors for favorite cartoon (“SpongeBob Squarepants”) and favorite fart in a movie (a scene from “Kangaroo Jack,” in case you were wondering).
“The most important thing in life growing up is to learn how to play,” Carrey told the audience, and even the most adult of entertainers, Hugh Jackman for instance, took that advice to heart this year.
The “X-Men” star took home the coveted celebrity burper award on Saturday. “Finally, something my family can be proud of,” Jackman said.
On a different note, this year’s show marked longtime host Rosie O’Donnell’s first absence in eight years, Reuters reports.
