The dinner party of the year commences this Sunday for the Golden Globes – with Ricky Gervais hosting.
The starry lineup of nominees and presenters promises to make the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel one of the most high-wattage in recent memory. Guests include the likes of George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Sophia Loren.
Clooney, 48, and Up in the Air lead the pack in Globe nods, with a total of six for the movie, including one for best dramatic film as well as best actor.
Bullock, 45, has leading actress nominations in both the drama and comedy categories – one for her performance as a compassionate mother in The Blind Side and the other for her role as an edgy publishing exec in The Proposal.
Streep, 60, also is a Globes frontrunner with dueling nominations for leading comedic actress in Julie & Julia and It’s Complicated. Damon, 39, has two nods, for lead actor in a comedy for The Informant and for supporting actor for Invictus.

Up in the Air will compete with Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds and Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. Nominees for best comedy or musical are (500) Days of Summer, Nine, The Hangover, It’s Complicated and Julie & Julia.
Clooney joins Tobey Maguire, Brothers; Morgan Freeman, Invictus; Colin Firth, A Single Man; and Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart in the dramatic actor race. Damon’s comedy competition includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Nine; Robert Downey Jr., Sherlock Holmes; Joseph Gordon-Levitt, (500) Days of Summer; and Michael Stuhlbard, A Serious Man.
Aside from herself and Bullock, Streep is up against Marion Cotillard, Nine, and Julia Roberts, Duplicity. Bullock’s fellow dramatic actress nominees are Emily Blunt, The Young Victoria; Helen Mirren, The Last Station; Carey Mulligan, An Education; and Gabourey Sidibe, Precious.
Globe recipients are chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
