Talk about taking center stage on your wedding day.

Christina Davidson and Frank Tucci, a couple who met under unusual and tragic circumstances, tied the knot Sunday night at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.

As the bride, 31, and groom, 34, enjoyed a very public ceremony on the ACM stage with a single officiant, Martina McBride and Train singer Pat Monahan serenaded them with a duet of “Marry Me.”

“And now sir, you may kiss your bride,” the officiant announced, and the 12,000-plus “guests” in attendance roared with applause while the singers congratulated them as well.

The couple first met at a grief support group founded by Davidson where both were mourning the loss of their spouses, who died in 2009 within months of each other. When Tucci proposed, he did it with the couple’s three children between them, filing into Davidson’s bedroom with their kids wearing shirts that spelled out “Will you marry me?”

“When I read their story, I felt an emotional connection,” McBride told PEOPLE. “They have been through so much and I just thought about what an honor it would be to share this moment with them.”
