Vice President Joe Biden's Son Hunter Says Ashley Madison Account Is Not His

Vice President Joe Biden‘s son Hunter Biden says the Ashley Madison account opened using his email address does not belong to him.

“I am certain that the account in question is not mine,” Biden says in a press statement. “This account was clearly set up by someone else without my knowledge, and I first learned about the account in question from the media.”

The married father of three, 45, adds that he no longer uses the email address linked to the account on the hacked adultery website and says someone set up the profile under his name to discredit him.

“This is, unfortunately, not the first time that someone has used my name and identity to try to discredit me,” says the lawyer and businessman. “From my understanding through press accounts, it is very easy to set up an account without someone’s knowledge as there is no requirement that an email address be verified, and I am certain that is what happened in this case.”

Breitbart News first reported the account tied to Biden’s email address on Monday, after hackers released the identities of alleged users of the website for extramarital affairs.

Breitbart reports that the account was last used in June 2014 and paid for with a credit card registered to a “Robert Biden.” (Biden’s full name is Robert Hunter Biden, but he goes by Hunter.)

A source in the Biden camp, however, tells PEOPLE that the IP address from which the Ashley Madison account was established is located in Jacksonville, Florida, and that the account has Biden’s date of birth and other information wrong. A screenshot of the profile, taken by Breitbart, shows that Biden’s birthdate was incorrectly listed as Feb. 4, 1980. His actual birthday is Feb. 4, 1970.

“His Gmail has been compromised in the past, as has his Twitter,” the source says.

And last year, an identity thief set up a fake company in the U.K. under the name Hunter Biden. “Unfortunately, there’s a pattern of this that Hunter’s been dealing with on a case-by-case basis. But he’s a private citizen and wishes the hassle didn’t also have to be news.”
