The venue may have been the sam—the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles—and Tom Cruise was once again tie-less, but MTV’s 10th annual Movie Awards, held June 2, were still a far cry from the Oscars. In see-through Anne Bowen pants, actress Shannon Elizabeth topped even Jennifer Lopez for sheer determination, and Saturday Night hive’s “Will Ferrell traded in his tux for a baby-blue Puma warm-up suit. Tommy Lee brought Sean “Puffy” Combs as his “date,” and Save the Last Dance stars Sean Patrick Thomas and Julia Stiles waltzed away with the best kiss statue (a bronzed tub of popcorn). “I’ve never walked down a red carpet where they’re blasting Michael Jackson!” said Traffic‘s Erika Christensen, who won for breakthrough performance female. Afterward, most celebs headed to a party hosted by Combs, who greeted 75-year-old Hugh Hefner by declaring, “It’s so nice to meet you. You’re a playboy and I’m a playboy tool”
