WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13

THE AMAZING HOWARD HUGHES

CBS (9 p.m. ET)

Sorry, would-be beneficiaries, this won’t solve the estate problems. But the two-part biography—the second installment is April 14 at 9 p.m.—does trace the eccentric Hughes (Tommy Lee Jones) from his days as a teenage wheeler-dealer to his reclusive, phobia-ridden end.

THURSDAY, APRIL 14

RONA LOOKS AT TV WOMEN

ABC (1:30 p.m. ET)

Exclusive! From Miss Rona’s Hollywood! Insipid questions you’d be too embarrassed to ask! Rona Barrett does persuade people to tongue-wag, though. This time she sidles up to Toni Tennille, Penny Marshall, Cindy Williams and Kate Jackson.

A DAY WITH PRESIDENT CARTER

NBC (8 p.m. ET)

An inside look at the White House and the self-proclaimed outsider who lives there. An interview by John Chancellor follows.

SUNDAY, APRIL 17

CELEBRITY CHALLENGE OF THE SEXES

CBS (8 p.m., ET)

Do you lose sleep wondering if Ed Asner can outrun Lola Falana, Farrah Fawcett-Majors whip Bill Cosby at tennis, or O. J. Simpson beat Phyllis George at Ping-Pong? You can find out here.

MONDAY, APRIL 18

PINOCCHIO

CBS (8:30 p.m. ET)

Sandy Duncan and Danny Kaye sing their way through a children’s favorite. Many reviewers said this rerun was charming the first time around; none of their noses grew.

ALL THAT GLITTERS

Syndicated (check local listings)

Another five-days-a-week serial twist by Norman Lear, though not as surreal as MHMH. The women are corporate execs who swing the deals and suffer from ring-around-the-collar; the men type, file and sing the waxy buildup blues.

TUESDAY, APRIL 19

THE BLUE HOTEL

PBS (check local listings)

Stephen Crane’s classic Western short story of a thrill-seeker drawn into a murder in a blizzard-bound hotel. David Warner stars.
