She did it again. No “oops” about it. After a 55-hour marriage to high school classmate Jason Alexander, Britney Spears waited eight months before she wed Kevin Federline, one of her backup dancers. The two shocked their family and friends by inviting them to an “engagement party” at a private home in Studio City, Calif., that turned out to be the main event. “I was like, ‘What are we waiting for? We know this is the real thing, why not just do it now?’ ” Spears told PEOPLE in September. Instead of a reception, the wedding party went clubbing. At night’s end, Federline swept his bride off her feet and carried her out to begin the honeymoon. It’s been a whirlwind year for Spears: She also launched her fragrance, Curious; decided to take time off from her career; and is contemplating motherhood. As her mother said of the wedding, “I just cried because I think it sort of hit me that she is a woman now. It hurts when they grow up.”
Jennifer Lopez, 35, & Marc Anthony, 36
Invited to an intimate afternoon party at Lopez’s Beverly Hills mansion, guests were tipped off by Anthony that this was to be their wedding day. Possibly because Lopez had called off her highly anticipated $2 million nuptials to Ben Affleck only nine months earlier and Anthony had finalized his divorce only five days previously, the news came as a surprise. In the days following the ceremony, which was held in the backyard of her $7 million home, the couple denied that they’d been married. On ABC’s The View, Anthony said, “I have nothing to say about anything.” But the truth soon leaked out, and the appearance of a wedding band on Anthony seemed an eloquent enough announcement.
Tori Spelling, 31, & Charlie Shanian, 36
Surrounded by family, friends and more than a few former Beverly Hills, 90210 castmates, a joyously weepy Spelling married actor-writer Shanian. Nervous dad Aaron stepped on the train of the bride’s Badgley Mischka gown, but little else marred the $1,000,000 day.
