HOLLY GOES UNLIGHTLY
Bring down the curtain on funnyman Jim Carrey‘s year-and-a-half relationship with actress Lauren Holly: The romance, according to one knowledgeable source, is now officially “over and out,” with Holly having moved out of Carrey’s $4 million Los Angeles home last month. I’m told that after the breakup over the usual unreconcilable differences, Carrey traveled solo to Maui and hid from photographers in a private home. The Ace Ventura star did, of course, make it back to the mainland in time to be a presenter at last week’s Oscars, and wowed ’em with his routines during the big telecast, but he has not been a happy camper since splitting with the Picket Fences actress. Says the source: “Jim still loves her and is sad that he can’t live with her.”…
And speaking of the Oscars, the show proved there’s life after disaster. Model Veronica Webb, a rabid fan of the bomb movie Showgirls, says that 9 of the 15 dancers in the Oscar telecast’s opening production number also shimmied as dancers in Showgirls….
Tori Spelling, the 22-year-old costar of her father Aaron Spelling‘s series Beverly Hills, 90210, is dating Greg Vaughan, twentysomething, who plays Michelle Phillips‘s alcoholic son on another of Daddy’s shows, NBC’s Malibu Shores. The two have been seeing each other for a few months, but kept it quiet at Vaughan’s request. But now that Tori has just finished a guest-starring role in Shores, playing a waitress in a bar who picks up Vaughan’s character, Josh, I expect the two will be a little more open about their romance. The Shores episode airs April 13….
That was an eclectic crowd helping Sharon Stone celebrate her 38th birthday with a backyard barbecue at her house in Beverly Hills on March 17. (Stone’s actual birth date is March 10.) Among the guests: Roseanne, Good Morning America entertainment reporter Chantal, director Mark Rydell, and Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa. The high point of the afternoon came when seven Tibetan monks gathered everyone around the pool to chant. Stone has been interested in Tibetan culture since costarring with Richard Gere, a noted Tibetan enthusiast, in Intersection, directed by Rydell in 1993….
Ready for House of Pepperoni? Cindy Crawford, former longtime host of MTV’s House of Style, will be doing a commercial for Pizza Hut. Don’t wait for home delivery, though. The spot for the chain will air only in Europe and Asia….
Rod Stewart, a blond since the days of his 1978 album Blondes Have More Fun, is now a redhead. Stewart, currently on a U.S. concert tour, says he changed his hair color because, “I was feeling drab on a bleak March day in Detroit.” Model Rachel Hunter, back in L.A., had not yet seen her husband’s new do, but Stewart says that even if his wife hates his new look he’ll stay a redhead through the summer….
One of the main characters on NBC’s Homicide will suffer a massive stroke and die in this season’s finale. Nobody connected with the show will tell me which character is doomed, but co-executive producer Tom Fontana, while refusing to confirm the manner of his or her passing, did say that the affected cast member “is fully aware and supportive” of the decision to eliminate the role. The season-ender will air on May 17, so order those wreaths now.
