This song is a perfect description of how I grew up, the dreams I had back then and the values that shaped my life.
BORN TO RUN
This song is all about freedom. It reminds me so much of the freedom I felt my first couple years on the road. We had 14 people on a 12-bunk bus, and I didn’t think it could get any better.
STIR IT UP
I have spent a ton of great days at sea watching sunsets to this song. No matter where I am in the world, when I hear this song, I am in that place.
TAKE IT EASY
It’s funny now that I live this song how I understand every struggling, conflicted emotion of it. As a kid I had no idea what it meant; I just knew I loved it! But now it is scary familiar, true to my life.
ANGEL OF HARLEM
This song is college for me. It’s a kid playing music and learning how to open up his mind and his life to so many things musically, and otherwise.
LIFE’S BEEN GOOD
Joe is one of the few people I know that talks like he sings, and it was a thrill to have him on the road with us. I will never listen to this song the same way again because of the summer he was in the band.
First concert I ever went to. It’s safe to say that night helped change my path in life.
A PIRATE LOOKS AT FORTY
This song has become more and more relatable to my life now. As a kid, I loved the story of the song because when I saw the ocean, I couldn’t help but wonder what was out there. I still do!

COME AND GO BLUES
This has been burned in my head since the first time I heard it. It’s songs like this that made me want to be a songwriter in the first place.
MISERY AND GIN
I used to sing this song in the clubs when I was starting out. That record still holds up today. It is a timeless song from a timeless singer.
