MICHELLE WILLIAMS ON HER GRIEF
“IT JUST GETS WORSE”
Despite signs of having moved on, Michelle Williams is not over the shocking death of her ex, Heath Ledger. Talking publicly for the first time about his death ten months ago, Williams, 28, burst into tears at the first mention of his name during an interview with Newsweek. “Grief is like a moving river,” she went on to tell the reporter. “In some ways it just gets worse. It’s just that the more time passes, the more you miss someone.”
The actress, who’s been dating director Spike Jonze, called herself an “optimistic person,” and repeated her plan to take time off and focus solely on daughter Matilda, 3: “I want her to have a routine … the plainest, simplest, most ordinary habituated routine possible.” According to a neighbor in Williams’ beloved Brooklyn, she’s still working through her emotions: “She has good and bad days. Sometimes it seems that she’s fighting to put a smile on, other times she radiates with joy.”
Jodie Sweetin’s Husband
‘SHOCKED’ BY SPLIT
After 16 months of marriage, former Full House star Jodie Sweetin, 26, filed for legal separation from husband Cody Herpin, 31, on Nov. 19, citing irreconcilable differences. Herpin told Scoop that Sweetin left for her parents’ house with their 7-month-old daughter Zoie, leaving him “shocked. There’s been a change in our relationship…. I don’t know what it is. I just want our little girl home.” Sweetin, who once battled a crystal meth addiction, is “absolutely clean,” says her agent, and “in a very positive place.”
Ashlee & Pete
IT’S A BOY
On Nov. 20 Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, 24, and Pete Wentz, 29, welcomed their first child, a 7-lb. 11-oz. son named Bronx Mowgli. (Although the rabid Disney fans haven’t discussed the name, “Mowgli” is the main character in The Jungle Book.) “They’re going to be great parents,” Joel Madden told Scoop at the Nov. 22 Good Charlotte album release party. “They both have big hearts. I’m excited for them.”
Paris Hilton‘s nine-month relationship with Benji Madden is over. “It was a decision we made together as two adults in a close relationship,” Hilton, 27, tells Scoop. “Right now we’re just taking a break.” Madden, 29, meanwhile is mum on the split, but Hilton adds, “I love him very much. He’s an amazing man and we will always be close.”
Cameron Diaz & Paul Sculfor
Cameron Diaz, 36, and British model Paul Sculfor, 37, can’t seem to keep their hands—and lips!—off each other. The couple-of-six-months held hands over a long, candlelit dinner of pasta and fish at Beverly Hills restaurant E. Baldi Nov. 21. After the main course, Diaz spoon-fed Sculfor ice cream and lavished him with kisses, prompting a patron to joke aloud, “Get a room!” Ever the gentleman, Sculfor paid the tab, and the duo left hand in hand.
OMG, THEY’RE DATING?
Three months after her split with Michael Bolton, Nicollette Sheridan cozied up to another familiar face: David Spade, 44. Ringing in her 45th birthday Nov. 21 at L.A.’s Luau with fellow Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman and other pals, Sheridan “cuddled and kissed” Spade in a booth. But, says a source, “they’re not dating; they’re just friends.”

5 Questions for … BRAD PAISLEY
The country hunk talks about his new album, Play, the benefits of baby No. 2 and romancing his wife
1 Your wife, Kimberly, is due in April. You must be psyched.
We’re pretty excited. But I’m more excited for my boy Huck [21 months]. He needs a brother or sister. He’ll learn to share, which is something I never did as an only child.
2 Play is mostly instrumental. Is that a risky move?
It definitely won’t get much radio play. But maybe it will get more because they’ll use the songs in the background when they read the weather.
3 Keith Urban joins you for the guitar-heavy vocal duet, “Start a Band,” on the album. Is his and Nicole Kidman‘s 5-month-old daughter Sunday Rose pals with your son yet?
I’ve joked that I’m going to set Huckleberry up with her but someone said their celebrity couple name could be “Suckleberry.” Not such a good thing!
4 One of the album’s instrumental songs, “Kim,” is for your wife. Is it tough to write a love song with no lyrics?
You can be a little more on the nose with it because you’re not giving away things that are going to get you slapped. And you can almost hear her name in the melody, so it was fun to write. When she heard it, she passed on it though, so I’m going to go ahead and dedicate it to Kim Cattrall or someone!
5 Any chance Huck will get to go out on tour next year?
It would be a blast for him. He’d come back a whole different kid. He probably wouldn’t adhere to his bedtime anymore.
