JEN & JOHN’S SURPRISE ROMANCE
After two months of frolicking beachside in Miami with her Marley & Me costar Owen Wilson, JENNIFER ANISTON, 39, may have landed a real-life romance with crooner JOHN MAYER, 30. First spotted sunbathing together on April 24, the duo kicked off the weekend with a lingering lunch the next day at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink. “We opened especially for them,” general manager Charles Bell tells Scoop. “They looked happy, like they were having a tête-a-tête.”
Later they enjoyed a moonlit dinner at Casa Tua Italian-style restaurant where “they were kissing and hugging,” says a source. (Close call: Aniston’s former flame Vince Vaughn and Wedding Crashers pal Wilson hosted a private party at the same restaurant the following evening.) The lovefest continued on Sunday at Café Sambal, where the matching duo—she in a white tank top and he in a white button-down—held hands and shared dessert. A source says they even went grocery shopping (perhaps a sign of domesticated coupledom?).
Cozy atmosphere aside, this isn’t Mayer’s first go at leading-lady love (see box). “Look at John’s track record,” a pal cautions. “This was a glorified weekend date, [but] who knows what will happen.”
So how did this too-good-to-be-true union start? Despite rumors that mutual pal Sheryl Crow set them up, the duo were first introduced at CAA superagent Bryan Lourd’s pre-Oscar party by a staffer at the talent agency, where both are clients. “They’ve been seeing each other for weeks now,” adds a source. “It’s very real.”
IS JOHN A SERIAL DATER?
Proving that maybe girls do dig guys with guitars, Mayer has dated his share of Hollywood starlets.
Dated briefly in 2002

The Hills Update
L.C.’S NEW BASEBALL BEAU
The Hills’ Lauren Conrad, 22, has moved on from ex Brody Jenner, 24, and snagged a new boy toy: Doug Reinhardt, 23, a minor leaguer for baseball’s Baltimore Orioles. “They first hooked up in high school,” says a source. But on April 17 and again on April 22, they were spotted at L.A.’s Goa nightclub, getting “cozy,” says a source. “She’s always staying at his place,” another source says. Still, at the LG Scarlet TV launch April 28, Conrad refused to fess up, smiling coyly and saying, “I don’t have a boyfriend.”
Country singer Mindy McCready, 32, had a long-term affair with former Yankee pitcher Roger Clemens, 45, she confirmed to the New York Daily News April 29. McCready says she met Clemens in 1991 at a Florida bar when she was 15 and he was 28 (and married with two kids). But Clemens’ attorney Rusty Hardin said in a statement that McCready was a friend of the Clemens family and that nothing “improper” happened.
CUTE COUPLE ALERT!
T.R. & Mark
It’s been two months since Grey’s Anatomy’s T.R. Knight, 35, stepped out with boyfriend Mark Cornelsen at Elton John’s Oscar party, and the couple are going strong—despite their Odd Couple-esque differences. “He’s much more put together than I am, so maybe he can teach me a bit,” Knight said April 26 at the GLAAD awards of Cornelsen, a freshman at San Francisco State University studying business. And don’t believe the rumors. They haven’t bought a home together. “I bought my house in the fall,” Knight said, “before we started dating.”
Finding love on the set of a slasher movie? Sounds unlikely, but that’s what happened for Prom Night’s Johnathon Schaech and Jana Kramer. Since filming two thrillers together—Night and The Poker Club, due out later this year—Schaech, 38, and the 24-year-old Friday Night Lights alum have been inseparable, snuggling at Hollywood’s Les Deux and Tao nightclub in Las Vegas. “They’ve been hanging out a lot,” a source close to the couple tells Scoop.
THIS WEEK’S AMERICAN IDOL BUZZ
Archuleta Skips Prom—for Neil Diamond!
On April 26 classmates of Idol front-runner David Archuleta, 17, descended upon the Utah State Capitol building in Salt Lake City for the Murray High School junior prom. But missing among the 400 students was Archuleta himself—though he had a pretty good excuse to be M.I.A. That same Saturday he had a private singing lesson with Idol guest star Neil Diamond. “He was nailing down which songs to sing, working out arrangements, learning lyrics and rehearsing,” says Archuleta’s voice coach Dean Kaelin. “On Sunday he shot another Ford commercial.” Needless to say, his presence was missed. “It seemed like something big was missing,” says Murray High junior Whitney Winkelman. “[But] he’s doing great things, and we are proud of him.”
Star Jones & Al Reynolds
TIME TO MOVE ON
Former View cohost Star Jones Reynolds and husband Al Reynolds are pretty good at keeping some secrets. Though she filed for divorce on March 26, the news of their split didn’t leak out for another four weeks. Even so, the split was no shock to friends. “The marriage has been over for quite some time,” says one source. Even before their 2004 wedding, their relationship was questioned on deeply personal grounds—so much so that Jones said at the time, “We are satisfied that we know everything we need to know about each other’s pasts.” Whatever the cause of the divorce, Jones, 46, and Reynolds, 36, faced varied strains. “Al fell in love with the glitz and the glam,” says another source. “But [Star] came to a point where she knew she had to be more private.” With a prenup in place, according to a source, Jones is already moving on: “She’ll never say anything bad about the relationship because she wouldn’t devalue what they’ve shared.”
