Julia Roberts

An overjoyed Julia Roberts and her husband, Danny Moder, welcome their third child, son Henry Daniel

Life just got a whole lot noisier—and more nocturnal—for Julia Roberts and her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder, who welcomed son Henry Daniel in L.A. June 18. The new guy, who tipped the scales at 8 1/2 lbs., joins twin siblings Hazel and Phinnaeus, who turned 2 last November. “The Moder family is doing great,” says the actress’s rep Marcy Engelman. Roberts, 39, and Moder, 38—who will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary July 4—”are really happy,” says Roberts’s niece (and Nancy Drew star) Emma, 16. “It’s a good age difference with the twins.” So how will Roberts (whose next film, the drama Charlie Wilson’s War, opens in December) juggle three kids under 3? “She is really easygoing and loving,” says Emma. “She’s a great mom.”

John Travolta

There was no Matt Lauer stare-down. But John Travolta’s recent comments slamming psychiatric meds are still stirring up a controversy of Tom Cruise proportions. When asked by W magazine about Cruise, a fellow Scientologist, and his famous 2005 Today show rant against the medications, Travolta responded, “I still think that if you analyze most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is [psychotropic] drugs at the bottom of it.” Not surprisingly, experts from the mental health community strongly disagree with Travolta’s take. “The scientific fact is that mental illnesses are real medical conditions … and treatments are effective and safe,” a rep for the American Psychiatric Association fired back in a statement to PEOPLE June 19. “We are troubled that Travolta seems to be using a tragedy such as Virginia Tech to advance his ideology.” (Columbine shooter Eric Harris had taken a drug used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression, but police are still awaiting toxicology reports on Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho.) The actor’s rep could not be reached.

Uma Thurman’s

Uma Thurman was spotted in London June 16 with her new beau (right). His name? David White. He’s an actor-director-producer, says a close source, “and they’re very, very, very happy.”

Jennifer Aniston‘s

Jennifer Aniston had a special guest June 17—and no, it was not Paul Sculfor. (Her new beau stopped by June 15.) This VIP was Jane Pitt, mother of Aniston’s ex-husband Brad, who dropped by the star’s Malibu home for a quick chat. Odd that she’s still close to her former in-laws? No way, says Pitt’s brother Doug. “Jennifer is a friend of Brad’s,” he tells Scoop. “Why wouldn’t she be a friend of ours?”

Britney Spears

They’re no longer sparring—as they were at the height of their contentious divorce. But despite the rumors, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are still far from rekindling their romance. “Things are working out between them right now,” says a Federline friend. “But that doesn’t mean they’re getting back together.” Spears—who split from K-Fed in November—certainly showed no signs of being attached when she hit L.A. hotspot Winston’s with pals June 16. (While inside, she inexplicably swapped dresses with dancer pal Criscilla Crossland.) In fact, says a friend, the singer sees her former husband “only when he gets the kids [Sean Preston, 21 months, and Jayden James, 9 months].” These days, says a source, Federline spends more time with Shar Jackson, mother of his children Kori, 4, and Kaleb, 2. As for rumors Jackson might be pregnant? The actress, who recently had a tummy tuck, told reporters, “I’m not trying to ruin my body!”

Kristy Swanson

A Father’s Day visit turned ugly for Skating with Celebrities’ Kristy Swanson and Lloyd Eisler. A scuffle broke out June 15 when the two—now a real-life couple with an infant son—arrived in Kingston, Ont., to pick up the figure skater’s two other kids from ex-wife Marcia O’Brien. The schoolteacher (who was eight months pregnant when Eisler left the marriage) called 911, and Swanson was arrested for assault. “I have a black eye,” O’Brien tells Scoop. “It was completely unprovoked.” But the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie star (out on $470 bail) filed a countercomplaint and insists, “I never touched her.” Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Maureen McCormick’s

LOST 34 lbs.

How did The Brady Bunch‘s Maureen McCormick celebrate her triumph on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club? With chocolate! “I was going crazy to win, but now I’ll allow myself some,” says the 50-year-old actress, who lost 34 lbs. and dropped to a size 2 on the show. “I can’t live without it—and the occasional lemon drop martini.” Three months after Fit Club wrapped, McCormick still gets meals delivered from Susan’s Healthy Gourmet and works out three days a week. And she’s not sweating the four lbs. that have crept back on. “Naturally you gain a bit back, but I feel really good,” says the star, now 120 lbs. and a size 4. “I love my legs.” Her next challenge? “I’m driving cross-country with my family—it’s a very Brady vacation!”

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel can’t get enough of life on the road. The actress, 25—who tagged along on Justin Timberlake‘s tour in May—met up with him again June 17 to hit Amsterdam and Stockholm. While dining (and smoking tobacco in a hookah) at Beirut Cafe, they seemed, says owner Elias Karroum, “like an ordinary couple in love.”

What does Ashlee Simpson like best about boyfriend Pete Wentz? She’s magically drawn to his forehead. Time and time again, the pair strike their signature stance, always pressed brow to brow.

Angelina Jolie is back on the big screen as Mariane Pearl, the wife of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl

Q & A

She’s a mother of four, a philanthropist and partner to Brad Pitt. Oh yeah, she also acts. In New York City to promote her new film A Mighty Heart, Angelina Jolie, 32, chats about taking on the deeply personal role.

Why did you want to do this film?

I was very hesitant. I didn’t feel like I’d be good enough to pull this off. But I believe very much in [Mariane’s] message … about overcoming fear and hate and becoming a more tolerant person. If there’s one message in the film, it’s to find common ground, not just the things that divide us.

Was it difficult playing someone you know so well?

I couldn’t sleep the entire night before our first day of shooting! I do respect her so much and I do spend time with [her son] Adam, and I know one day he’s going to see it.

This is a heavy movie for summer. Any box-office anxieties?

I’ll be in Prague [shooting the action film Wanted and] hanging with the kids, so I won’t know. I do live with the producer [Pitt], so I may hear something.

What does your son Maddox, 5, think Mom and Dad do for a living?

He’s got a weird combination of what we do, because he also comes with us [on humanitarian missions]. He knows we also make movies. He finds it funny … that we tell stories and we play dress-up.
